Formula E: Clapham driver Alexander Sims can’t bank points on home turf

Clapham’s Alexander Sims failed to bank any points at last weekend’s London E-Prix.

The South Londoner did not finish on Saturday after qualifying eighth. His car suffered terminal damage in turn five as the pack squeezed out of the indoor section of the ExCeL Circuit.

He started 19th on the grid for round 13 the following day and finished 16th with his best lap clocked at 1:22.747.

Sims, who signed for Mahindra Racing for the 2021-21 season, was 34.336 seconds behind winner Alex Lynn. Sims is 18th in the overall standings with 44 points.

The top positions are taken by Dutch duo Nyck De Vries (95) and Robin Frijns (89). Brit Sam Bird (81) is third on the leaderboard.

This year’s event ended a wait of more than five years (1,847 days) since London last hosted top-flight international motorsport, with last year’s race postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before that you would have to go back to 1972 at the now disused Crystal Palace Race Track.

The next round takes place in Berlin on August 14-15.
