Forward options key to QPR’s success – Millwall boss on tonight’s Den derby

Millwall manager Gary Rowett reckons that QPR have the frontline options to ensure they stay in the Championship promotion shake up.

The two clubs face each other tonight at The Den.

Rangers have shared the goals around with Lyndon Dykes top-scoring in the league with eight. Other notable contributions have come from Ilias Chair (seven),  Chris Willock (seven), Andre Gray (five) and Charlie Austin (four).

“They have got a really good structure and play a similar formation to what a lot of teams do this season – with a back five,” said Rowett. “The majority of teams in this division have played that way. We’ve been playing that way for quite a long time.

“They have got good players and good quality throughout the team. Their forward options are the key, they are the difference. We’ve spoken about it a lot in this division – if you can get four strikers all chipping in with goals and firing at different times of the season then that’s the key to winning tight games, turning one point into three on a regular basis.”

QPR lost 1-0 at struggling Barnsley on Saturday and have taken one point from a possible six.

Rowett said: “You can look at their recent form but you can look at anyone’s form at some point over the season – Fulham had a little wobble early on for a few games and Bournemouth came off it a few times but they are still up there because they’ve won a lot of matches.

“QPR are the same, they are right in the mix.”
