Four takeaways from Millwall’s 0-0 draw at Swansea City – Mr Versatile produces again and Lions secure first clean sheet of campaign

Millwall drew 0-0 with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Lions made two changes to the team that earned a well-deserved point against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, with Mason Bennett and Tom Bradshaw coming in for Matt Smith and Sheyi Ojo.

Here are Kai Bennett’s four takeaways from the game.

MILLWALL GET THEIR FIRST CLEAN SHEET OF THE SEASON

Millwall racked up 17 clean sheets during the 2020-21 campaign. This goalless draw in South Wales meant they picked up their first shutout of the new season.

Bartosz Bialkowski was rarely tested in the Millwall goal, apart from when he made a good save from a fizzing free-kick late on.

DANIEL BALLARD INJURY CONCERN

The Arsenal loanee was substituted in the second-half after he looked to clash heads with a Swansea player.

Ballard has been fantastic since making the summer switch from the Gunners and scored the Lions’ equalising goal at The Hawthorns  on Saturday.

Millwall already have two defenders – Danny McNamara and Shaun Hutchinson – on the sidelines, and will be hoping that Ballard being substituted is just a precaution.

TOM BRADSHAW’S FIRST START OF THE SEASON

Tom Bradshaw had not started a league game this season before Millwall’s trip to Wales to face Swansea City.

The 29-year-old worked tirelessly trying to close down the Swansea defence as they looked to play the ball out from the back.

Bradshaw nearly won it for the Lions with 15 minutes to play, when his shot was excellently saved by Swans keeper Ben Hamer.

RYAN LEONARD ONCE AGAIN SHOWS HIS VERSATILITY

Ryan Leonard came on in the second half to replace Ballard and slotted in at centre-back. He was also introduced against West Brom on Saturday and played right-back. Despite his usual position being centre-midfield, the 29-year-old continues to show that he can play anywhere to help the team.
