Frank Warren: I’d be happy to match Daniel Dubois with Anthony Joshua now

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Frank Warren says he would have no hesitation putting Daniel Dubois in the ring with Anthony Joshua.

Joshua was seen as one of the leading heavyweight stars but lost his collection of world title belts recently in New York, floored four times on his way to a seventh-round stoppage at the hands of Andy Ruiz Jr.

Unbeaten Greenwich puncher Dubois challenges Nathan Gorman – also with a perfect fight ledger – for the British title at Greenwich’s 02 Arena on July 13.

Warren, who promotes the South Londoner, said: “Daniel Dubois has got a lot to learn – but if he had been in that ring and clipped AJ it would have been over.

“It’s no secret what he has done when he has sparred with him, when he was a kid.

“He is a much bigger puncher than Ruiz, much bigger.

“The winner of that fight [Dubois-Gorman], I’d have no problem with matching them with  AJ now – no problem.

“I’m talking about the confidence I have in the guys [not the chances of it happening].”

“The change at the top is what it is, but it is what is coming through beneath that.

“You look at Daniel Dubois, Nathan Gorman and Joe Joyce – whoever wins those fights I think they’ll go straight into the top five and becoming mandatory challengers, certainly by the end of the year.

“You look at who is around, these guys are every bit as good as them.”
