Fulham boss delighted to see Aleksandar Mitrovic set new Premier League record

Marco Silva was pleased that Fulham found a way to breakthrough Peterborough’s defence – and labelled record-breaker Aleksandar Mitrovic as “fantastic”.
The Whites defeated Posh 1-0 at the London Road Stadium on Saturday to stay second in the Championship, two points behind table-toppers Bournemouth.
Silva said: “We won’t always score a big number of goals in every match. Our opponents blocked us well, the pitch wasn’t in the condition to play a quick game and it was tough like we expected.
“Every time they play a top side they achieve very good results, which means they’re a strong side at home.
“We started the game well, with the right intensity, the right pace, winning the second balls, but they waited for us in the middle and it wasn’t easy to play against them.
“I told our players at half-time that the key will be patience and balance. We have to play higher, quicker and make better decisions in attack because we’ll score and we did it.”
Mitrovic’s clincher against Posh means the Serbian striker holds the record for the quickest player to get to 20 Championship league goals – in 17 appearances.
Silva added: “It’s fantastic what Mitrovic is doing. It’s a collective process, as Mitro can’t score goals without us creating.
“Of course, when you have a player with his capacity and ability to score goals, it’s fantastic for us. We know as a team that Mitro is a fantastic player.
“Our number nine loves getting chances to score, and he’s brilliant.”
