Fulham boss hit with further FA charge following Manchester United FA Cup defeat

Fulham boss Marco Silva has been charged by the FA with misconduct following comments he made after his side’s 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester United.

Silva was sent off by referee Chris Kavanagh after both Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic were issued with red cards following a penalty decision that went against Fulham’s way.

The 45-year-old former Hull and Everton boss has also been charged with improper conduct from the clash at Old Trafford for allegedly throwing a water bottle in the direction of the assistant referee.

The west Londoners took the lead through Mitrovic in the 50th minute, but Erik ten Hag’s side, who had a two-player advantage, scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to book their semi-final tie with Brighton.

A statement from the FA Spokesperson said: Fulham’s Marco Silva has been charged with misconduct for comments that he made in a press conference after The FA Cup tie against Manchester United on Sunday 19 March.

“It’s alleged that his comments constitute improper conduct in that they imply bias and/or question the integrity of the match official, and/or bring the game into disrepute. The manager has until Wednesday 29 March to provide his response.”

Speaking after the game, Silva said: “Our story with Chris Kavanagh this season has been tough for us.

“Unfortunately, we have been very unlucky with him this season. Many moments. It is difficult to understand some of the decisions.

“We had that West Ham game away from home [in October]. We lost the game with two clear handball goals and it was Chris Kavanagh in that moment. Today, everyone saw what is happening in this game. It is difficult for them to not look for these things.”
