Fulham boss knows side must start taking their big chances to boost Premier League survival hopes

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Scott Parker was proud of his Fulham side’s display in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United – but knows the west Londoners must start taking their chances if they want to retain Premier League status.

Ademola Lookman rifled the Whites ahead early on at Craven Cottage but Edinson Cavani was left with a gift when keeper Alphonse Areola dropped Bruno Fernandes’ cross.

Pogba fired a brilliant finish home in the 65th minute as United went back to the top of the table.

Fulham boss Parker said: “I’m pleased but disappointed at the same time, which I suppose does show how far we have come.

“We’ve played six or seven of the top teams and more than held our own.

“We caused them a lot of problems. The big moments in the game, we just didn’t execute at times – big chances that need to go in for us.

“I’ve still very proud. I love the team and what they are doing at the moment. We keep going, that’s the only thing we can do.

“The team and players have worked tirelessly – now it’s about executing in those key moments. We all recognise that. Hopefully we improve in that area.”

South London-raised Lookman, on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig, netted his third goal for Fulham as he played in a central striking role.

“He had a lot of time to compose himself,” said Parker. “It was a fantastic finish. We’ve lost the moment on a mistake and a moment of brilliance from Paul Pogba from 35 yards.

“It felt quite even for me. On another day you like to think one of those chances goes in.”

Fulham are at home to Burnley in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
