Fulham boss once again bemoans squad shortcomings as transfer window deadline approaches

Marco Silva once again repeated the urgency for Fulham to add to their squad before the transfer window closes on Thursday after watching his side push Arsenal in an absorbing London derby.

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s fourth goal of the campaign put the Whites 1-0 up after dispossessing Gabriel.

The Gunners had spells of pressure but it needed a deflected Martin Odegaard strike to beat Bernd Leno on his return to his former club.

And Gabriel grabbed an 85th-minute winner for the Gunners to maintain their 100 per cent unbeaten record.

Silva has got Fulham off to an impressive start to the Premier League campaign despite the lack of depth he desires – not least having no back up to the prolific Mitrovic, who moved to 100 goals in 181 appearances for the west Londoners.

Speaking to the BBC, the Portuguese boss was told that he needed more incoming deals to provide extra depth. And he responded: “I’m happy because everyone around the world can see that.

“Sometimes it can look crazy for myself – I’m repeating the same thing. But everyone who sees football and understands football can see. We don’t have wingers on the bench, we don’t have a striker – Mitrovic has been a monster, of course, doing a fantastic performance but it can’t be for that level [all the time] you are playing like that.

“I’m not here to find excuses. I’m here to find solutions. But at this level you have to find much more.

“It was a tough defeat for us because my players deserved to get something more from the game – great organisation from the first to the last minute.

“Arsenal had more possession, more shots and corners – for sure – but I didn’t see so many clear chances for them. They scored two goals and one is really lucky with the deflection.

“Even at 1-1 we had a big chance – Mitro with a great header. And after 2-1 we had a great chance with Chalobah. Bad luck for us this evening.”
