Fulham boss Scott Parker stays grounded after super Mario earns vital win at Liverpool

Scott Parker’s sole focus is on what his Fulham side produce on the pitch – even though today’s 1-0 win at Liverpool has sucked more teams deeper into the Premier League survival fight.

Mario Lemina’s first-half goal settled the contest at Anfield before a superb defensive display ensured the west London side kept a fifth clean sheet in their last seven outings.

Only goal difference keeps Parker’s side in the bottom three with Brighton, Newcastle and Burnley all firmly in their sights.

Parker said: “There is momentum with us – as a team. It’s an irrelevance where we sit in the league and who we’re bringing into it or the points difference. It will always be an irrelevance until the end of the season. What is relevant, and what is our main focus, is us.

“For two days we have planned and prepared a team – the lads have been superb in that about worrying about us and how we can dominant this game.

“When it is all said and done and the final curtain comes down then we’ll sit down and work out whether we were good enough.

“They’ve got what they deserved. For large parts of this season, and certainly for large parts of the last 10 to 15 games, we’ve not managed to get what we deserved – there’s been a lot of draws in that.

“I had full belief, but as a coach sometimes you need results to make your words a little more believable. You don’t perform like we have done for the last few weeks if you haven’t got that.”
