Fulham boss Silva on ‘top talent’ Smith Rowe and Alex Iwobi being star performer this campaign
Marco Silva has picked out Alex Iwobi as Fulham’s star performer this season.
The Whites won 2-0 against an injury-hit Crystal Palace today at Selhurst Park and Emile Smith Rowe and Harry Wilson on target.
Iwobi provided the assist for Wilson’s 83rd minute goal.
“For me, last season was the best season from him in the Premier League,” said Fulham head coach Silva, who was instrumental in pushing to be reunited with the attacking midfielder when he joined from Everton. “I am sure he is going to be better this season.
“I brought him to Everton and then had the chance to have him here in London at Fulham. It was a moment for us to go.
“From the first week of pre-season I felt he was going to have this season. He has taken more responsibility on his back and is helping the team.”
Silva is demanding more from all of his players despite a strong start to the campaign for Fulham, who followed up a dramatic derby win at home to Brentford with maximum points in SE25.
Smith Rowe, signed from Arsenal in the summer, also had a goal disallowed for a tight offside call which went to VAR.
“What a talent,” said Silva. “Top talent and a top boy. He knows, at the same time, he has to work with the heart to play at the level he has the capacity to be.
“He has had a great impact at this football club and he has the talent to do more.
“That is the one thing I told the players after the match. We have to be pleased with the season so far and I think everyone agrees we should have more points. But there is a great challenge for me, my staff and players. I’m going to demand more and more.”
