Fulham captain Joachim Andersen praises their defensive display at Arsenal

BY KAI BENNETT

Fulham centre back Joachim Andersen praised his side’s “unbelievable” defending in their 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.

Andersen has been an ever-present in the Premier League for the Whites since signing on a season-long loan from Lyon in the summer.

The Danish international was so close to skippering his team to a clean sheet and three points until a 97th-minute equaliser from Eddie Nketiah.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Andersen said: “I’m disappointed.

“It was quite similar to the Liverpool game, the way we defended was unbelievable and we concede a silly goal like that at the end.

“I haven’t seen [the goal] so I don’t know whether it was the right call or not. It’s these small things that change the game.

“We showed many times that we can play against the best teams, again today we showed that and again it’s these small things that happen that mean we don’t win the game.

“In fairness, I thought Arsenal were good today. It was a difficult game.

“We need to understand that you have to defend sometimes when you come here to the Emirates Stadium and we did that really well.

“We need to create more. We didn’t create enough but again we could’ve won 1-0 away, so what more could you have wanted?”
