Fulham climb out of Premier League relegation zone with impressive 2-1 win at Leicester City

BY MATT VERRI

Fulham moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with their first away win of the season, as goals from Ademola Lookman and Ivan Cavaleiro gave them a 2-1 victory over Leicester City.

Scott Parker set up his side to concede possession and look to catch the Foxes on the counter, with Tom Cairney and Aleksandar Mitrovic both benched.

It paid off handsomely as the visitors took the lead after half an hour. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa strode forward powerfully with the ball from within his own half and slid in Lookman, who beat the offside trap and then Kasper Schmeichel with a calm finish.

After eventually consulting the pitch-side monitor, referee Simon Hooper awarded Fulham a penalty eight minutes later as Christian Fuchs fouled Bobby Decordova-Reid. Putting aside his team’s woes from the spot, and his miss from 12 yards last week, Cavaleiro confidently doubled the lead.

Leicester failed to sustain any real pressure after the break as the visitors were dogged in their defensive shape and continued to offer a threat on the break, Lookman denied by Schmeichel as he went close to adding a third.

Harvey Barnes rifled home from inside the box after 85 minutes to halve the deficit, and with five minutes of added time the visitors had to withstand a nervy finish.

Kelechi Iheanacho had an effort deflected wide as Leicester threatened an equaliser, but Fulham held on for the three points their impressive performance deserved.
