Fulham ‘professional’ as they knock Hull City out of FA Cup
Fulham manager Marco Silva described their 2-0 FA Cup third round win at Hull City as “professional”.
The Portuguese boss made changes with top-scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic not risked.
Summer signing Layvin Kurzawa put the west London club ahead in the 37th minute after Harry Wilson’s initial shot was only parried.
Leeds loanee Dan James settled the outcome in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Dan James surging forward to score into an unguarded net – keeper Matt Ingram at the other end as the visitors broke out from defending a corner.
“Job done,” said Silva. “Professional win as well. We were serious in our approach. It makes a big difference in the match. It doesn’t matter the division you play in, it’s always really difficult to play this type of games.
“We started okay and then a mistake created their biggest chance, it gave them belief. They’re on a good run, they wanted to be on the front foot. We created two or three good chances first half, they had their moments. The goal gave us calmness to control the game.
“Second half, we controlled the game but just keeping possession. We weren’t the team we normally are, that try to go and score. We controlled the ball, moving it one side to the other but not with clear aim to punish their organisation, to create the right moves.
“They changed formation, they caused problems, first and second balls. It was a moment we struggled, they believed until the end. It’s a normal situation in these competitions. I’d like to see us create more chances.
“It is fantastic to win four games in 13 days. Sometimes the energy is not the same but ,with the right mentality, you can do the right things. Three clean sheets away from home is really important.”
