Gareth Ainsworth wants first away win as Shrewsbury boss at Charlton
Gareth Ainsworth is targeting his first away win as Shrewsbury boss when his side head to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
The Shrews have picked up 12 points from Ainsworth’s first 10 League One games in charge.
They have won maximum points against big spenders Wrexham and Birmingham under the former QPR boss.
But a first away win still eludes Ainsworth, who has only won once in nine times when coming up about Nathan Jones’ previous sides.
“I’ve seen them and they’re a very, very good side,” said the former Wycombe manager.
“Nathan is a manager I’ve had many battles with – possibly the most the manager I’ve faced the most.
“Nathan is always a fierce and intense competitor. He’s gone to a club who have good resources – you can see that with the players they have signed.
“If you look the bench, let alone the starters, and they have a good squad.
“With the new owners now, who are coming in and investing, they want to get back to the Premier League.
“They have huge stadium in London. It’s going to be a tough game, but we thrive in tough games.
“Away from him, I want to pick up my first win. We’re doing well with our home form but to come back from the Valley with something would be a real treat.”
