Gary Cahill praises gameplan as Crystal Palace pull off momentous win at Old Trafford
Debutant Gary Cahill highlighted the work-rate of his Crystal Palace team-mates following their 2-1 win against Manchester United.
The former Chelsea centre-back replaced Scott Dann in the Eagles’ starting line-up as they won at Old Trafford in the league for the first time since 1991.
Cahill told PalaceTV: “For the gameplan to be well-executed, you have to work and be together. We cracked it with that formation. We did very well and worked extremely hard for each other.”
Cahill took pleasure in returning to playing action having spent much of last season out of the Chelsea team, and brought a calm and assured presence to the back line.
“I’m delighted to be back out there playing football,” he said. “To come here and win is fantastic, Manchester United are an unbelievable team, especially at home. We dug in all the way to the end and tried to couter when we had the chance.
“It’s a fantastic, unbelievable result.
“It was great desire by Patrick [van Aanholt] in the final seconds to make that run the whole way and get a shot off.”
