Gary Rowett: No fixture scheduling advantage for Millwall ahead of Derby County match
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Gary Rowett doesn’t believe that Millwall’s extra day of recovery will play any part in Saturday’s Championship match at Derby County.
The Lions made it six league games unbeaten with a 2-1 success at Bristol City on Tuesday night.
Derby drew 1-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday the following evening and are back at Pride Park this weekend.
Rowett – a former Rams boss – has played down any talk of an advantage from the longer turnaround.
He said: “I don’t think it makes much difference. It’s just a mentality sometimes, if you play a day earlier then sometimes you feel as though you should have a freshness about you.
“But we have to travel two or three hours tomorrow, Derby won’t have to travel anywhere.
“Sometimes when you have less recovery time you have to make more changes to the team to maintain your energy. I think that’s about the only effect it has.
“It’s not something I read too much into.
“Every team recovers well nowadays. All the teams are filled with good athletes. I don’t think it’s something that is a huge factor in who wins the game.”
