Gary Rowett up to 11th longest-serving boss after Southampton sack Hasenhuttl
Millwall’s Gary Rowett is now the 11th longest-serving manager in England’s top four divisions after Southampton sacked Ralph Hasenhuttl today.
The Saints parted company with the Austrian after their 4-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.
Hasenhuttl was the ninth longest-serving boss in England’s top four divisions. He was appointed by the Premier League club in December 2018.
Rowett recently surpassed the three-year mark as Lions boss. The only Championship manager to be in situ for longer is Mark Robins at Coventry City, who is not far off six years at the helm.
Southampton have been granted permission to speak to Luton’s Nathan Jones about their vacancy. Jones, 49, cut his coaching teeth in Charlton Athletic’s academy before making the move to Brighton in July 2013 to become assistant head coach.
The Saints will be allowed to open talks with Jones after Town’s Championship fixture at Stoke City, another of the clubs he had a short spell managing.
“We would like to place on record that the Premier League club have approached the board in the correct manner, for which we are grateful, and that the whole situation is extremely amicable with Southampton and with Nathan,” said a statement by Luton Town.
“We would also like to urge all supporters travelling to Stoke to show him and the team your support on what we hope will be yet another memorable away day.”
