George Alexander: It’s a dream come true to make Millwall debut

BY JAKE SANDERS

George Alexander described making his Millwall debut as “a dream come true” and is hungry for more first-team opportunities next season.

The 17-year-old academy product has been a part of three Lions matchday squads this term, including the FA Cup victory over Everton in January.

He played the final 23 minutes of Millwall’s 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, replacing Lee Gregory.

“I am buzzing to get my first-team debut,” Alexander said. “I have been at the club for 12 years now and it is a dream come true for me to make my Championship debut. It’s great for the gaffer to believe in me, Bill [Billy Mitchell], Dan [Danny McNamara] and Jess [Jesse Debrah] being on the bench.

“He [Neil Harris] said you have worked hard and it’s your time to show the fans and the club what you have got – what you’re going to do in the future. It’s just positives really.”

George’s dad Gary had three years with the Lions and scored one of the most spectacular goals seen at the new Wembley in the 2009 play-off final defeat to Scunthorpe United.

Alexander junior said: “He [Gary] is buzzing. He couldn’t be here today, but my mum, brother and little sister were.

“They are all Millwall supporters. I have been coming since I was seven, when I signed for the club. I was going to home and away games, it was brilliant.”
