‘Going to be tough’ – Carlisle United boss delivers verdict on Wimbledon’s squad ahead of Plough Lane clash

Carlisle United boss Paul Simpson has evaluated AFC Wimbledon’s squad ahead of tomorrow’s League Two clash at Plough Lane.

The Blues sit third in the fourth tier – five points off second-placed Stevenage – heading into this weekend’s game.

Johnnie Jackson’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat away to London rivals Leyton Orient last weekend but find themselves just three points off the play-off places.

Carlisle, who have scored 48 goals in the league this season, are the division’s top goalscorers.

Simpson’s side won the reverse fixture at Brunton Park 2-1 back in September, with Ayoub Assal scoring Wimbledon’s only goal.

“They have got a good side there,” said ex-England U20 manager Simpson.

“I have watched two or three of their games this week – it’s going to be tough.

“It looks a lovely little ground – I haven’t been there before.

“There is a lot of things to look forward to, but we have to make sure that we put on a performance.

“Whatever they’re going to do, we have an idea of what their shape will be and what the personnel will be, but we have to concentrate on what we can do.

“They’re a football side – they don’t take chances at the back. They have got experience with the likes of Chris Gunter and Alex Pearce.

“They have got good forward players with Harry Pell and Josh Davison. They have made a few good signings in the January window, so we know it’s going to be a tough game for us.

“It’s about who is up for the fight and the battle. It’s about us making sure that we do all we can.”
