‘Good discussion’ – Johnnie Jackson asked about update over Charlton boss job situation
Johnnie Jackson says he has had “some good discussions” with Charlton Athletic owner Thomas Sandgaard – with the caretaker manager extending his unbeaten record on Tuesday night.
The Addicks relinquished a 2-0 lead at Morecambe but Jackson made it seven matches without defeat since stepping in following the dismissal of Nigel Adkins on October 21.
Sandgaard had told our paper on Friday that he was set to wait another 30 days before making an announcement on a permanent boss.
The US-based Dane flew into the UK last week to see Charlton beat then League One leaders Plymouth Argyle 2-0 at The Valley. And Sandgaard was also at tonight’s 2-2 draw at the Mazuma Stadium. He is also due to attend Saturday’s match at Shrewsbury before heading back to the States.
Jackson said: “All the feedback has been good, it’s been positive. He’s recognised what we’re doing and how far we’ve come in a short period of time. If you think the last game that Thomas was over for was the Accrington game [which signalled the end of Adkins’ reign], before Saturday. When you look at where we were then compared to Saturday, it’s been a remarkably quick turnaround.
“He’s pleased with how it’s going and we’ve had some good discussions.
“I’ve just got to keep taking care of the next game, then the next game. We’ll be back on the road soon, travelling to Shrewsbury with another big game and big test. If we go there and win, we’ve had a pretty good week. It’s important when you don’t win that you don’t lose and add another point to the tally. We’ll just see where it takes us.”
Charlton’s torrid start to the season has left them facing a major challenge to make the play-offs, a minimum objective at the start of August.
The South Londoners are nine points adrift of the top six. Jackson made attacking changes with Charlie Kirk, Corey Blackett-Taylor and Mason Burstow all introduced.
Asked about whether a promotion challenge can still be mounted, Jackson responded: “It’s difficult. The game is 2-2 and we’ve got to go for the win, because of where we find ourselves in the league.
“We need to push for the win where in another circumstance you think ‘take the point’. We’re up against it in the league, with where we are and how many points we are behind. But there is a lot of games to be played and points to be picked up, which I’m confident we will – I can’t put any target on it.”

I think it’s disgusting,that the Ref, or Linesman dont pick up on these foul’s or more to the point give (them).I was at Charlton,Plymouth game, and was elated that we won, alway’s am.but there was a foul and the linesman just let it go there was no way he did’nt see it. I thought linesmen and Referee’s were meant to unbiased,but they are not.when I was Steward on the coach coming in from Ramsgate.my expression is in thiere pocket and I voiced it too.I only gave up being a Steward, because of being ill, and needing a lot of time off, so I passed the mantel on to somebody else, now I’m over the illness I’d like to pick the reigns up again but realise that’s not possible, never mind I get a season ticket though.
