Greenwich’s Daniel Dubois ready to challenge WBA world champion Trevor Bryan before end of 2021

Daniel Dubois is confident he is ready for WBA world champion Trevor Bryan after racking up a first-round knockout on his US debut.

The Greenwich heavyweight, 23, breezed through Joe Cusumano in Cleveland on Sunday to move his record to 17-1.

The WBA’s decision to scrap their ‘interim’ belts means Dubois has effectively been stripped of that belt.

Asked about facing American fighter Bryan, Dubois said: “Definitely. Whoever has the belts and gets me to the ultimate fights – I want them. I want big names and now we can push on.

“This was just the beginning. I’ve got a lot more to come. I want to be active, that’s how to get better.”

Dubois has won twice since suffering a first career loss to Joe Joyce. He said: “When you lose you feel depressed and bad. I’m on top of the world right now.”

His promoter and manager Frank Warren, also speaking to BT Sport, said: “It was a sensational debut in the States – the crowd loved him. I thought that was going to go much longer. He caught him with good shots, he’s such a big and powerful puncher.

“The WBA will order him against Bryan. That’s the fight we want and to get it on before the end of the year.”
