‘Grow up’ – Dons head coach Mark Robinson goes on offensive after 2-2 draw against Doncaster

Mark Robinson told his AFC Wimbledon players to “grow up” and also accused them of failing to give their all in today’s 2-2 draw with relegation rivals Doncaster Rovers.

Jack Rudoni scored his eighth goal of the season and gave the Dons an early lead at Plough Lane when he turned Luke McCormick’s free-kick home in the 23rd minute.

McCormick doubled Wimbledon’s lead four minutes after half time when he headed Lee Brown’s cross into the bottom right-hand corner.

But two strikes in the space of three minutes from Doncaster captain Tommy Rowe handed the visitors a point and condemned the Dons to their 15th draw of the League One season.

Wimbledon are without a win in their past 15 games under Robinson.

When asked how his side had reacted to dropping all three points, the Dons head coach said: “They put the effort in, but they didn’t give everything – giving everything is your body language, how you talk to your team-mates and how you drive each other on.

“I have got to stop saying that they are giving everything – I protect them too much.

“They put the effort in, they run around, but they have got to grow up.

“When I say about giving everything, I am not talking about physical exertion – I am talking about personality, organisation and making sure that things don’t happen.

“I should be sitting here with three points and talking about the six losses in 15 games.

“The draws are just ridiculous. That has got to be the seventh or eighth game now where we have taken the lead [and not picked up all three points], which means there is a problem, and I have got to address it and got to put it right.”

Speaking on what he believed he could do to rally his players into a position to survive the drop from League One, Robinson said: “We will do whatever it takes. We’re young, so we have probably got to get more honesty in the group – real honesty.

“There are things that are starting to wind me up now. I walk on the pitch after the game, and I just don’t know if it hurts enough. But that’s football in general – does it really, really hurt?

“Bar a handshake, there was nothing coming out of my mouth, and I am seeing players having conversations, which I don’t understand. We have got to find that extra bit that turns these draws into wins.

“They have all got to do more – all of them in different ways. There were some good performances out there, but there isn’t anyone who can’t do more physically, with communication or being technically better.”
