Harry Wilson on ‘crazy ending’ as late double earns Fulham derby win over Brentford
Harry Wilson felt his booking after scoring a dramatic late derby winner for Fulham in Monday’s 2-1 win over Brentford was “a bit harsh”.
The Wales international came off the bench to net twice in stoppage time at Craven Cottage.
First his flick looped over Bees keeper Mark Flekken and then he headed in from Antonee Robinson’s cross in the 97th minute at Craven Cottage.
“It was a crazy ending,” said Wilson. “I actually thought we played pretty well, so to go in at half-time 1-0 down wasn’t deserved.
“We did struggle with that final ball and they defended well. The manager put me on and said to try and make a difference – to get in that pocket and when the ball goes wide to get in the box. That’s what I tried to do for both goals.
“In the last minute of the game it is easy to kick the ball forward and hope for the best. But we played up the pitch and when Jedi (Robinson) gets wide you know he has the quality to deliver.
“I asked the ref how long was left (after making it 1-1) and he said there was four minutes. You knew there would be one more chance.
“The ref was a bit harsh giving me a yellow – I’d just scored in the last-minute of a derby game.”
