“He causes havoc” – Charlton manager Lee Bowyer on supersub Chuks Aneke

Lee Bowyer has praised the impact of Chuks Aneke as an impact substitute – with all the Charlton striker’s goals this season coming after he is introduced into the action.

The 27-year-old equalised for the Addicks in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Gillingham.

Aneke has four goals in the current campaign but has started only one League One fixture – the 1-0 win over Wigan in mid-October.

Asked about the way the former Milton Keynes man is developing into a super-sub for the South Londoners, Bowyer said: “He’s very, very good.

“He’s a good player – full stop. He’s getting better, this is the longest we’ve had him without getting injured.

“I was speaking to the fitness fellas on Sunday about Chuks and they said it is five weeks without him being out. We know how to use Chuks now and how to look after him.

“Chuks coming off the bench for the last half hour is much better than Chuks sitting on a medical table. He is fresh and causes havoc every time he comes off the bench. He is causing lots of problems for teams and scoring goals.”
