‘He gives us something different’ – Dean Holden passes verdict on Gavin Kilkenny’s Charlton debut

Dean Holden heaped praise on Charlton debutant Gavin Kilkenny following the 2-1 win at Exeter City.

The Bournemouth loanee hadn’t played a minute of competitive football since August but was thrown in from the off at St James Park – lasting the full 90 minutes.

Holden, who worked with Kilkenny when he was on loan at Stoke, said: “I have to mention Gav Kilkenny on debut. He was outstanding. I know his temperament. I know him well.

“He’s an excellent footballer, in terms of playing in tight areas. But he can get up to the ball, he gives us something different.

“They were saying he might have only had 60 minutes in him, but he was fine. He could probably go and play again knowing Gav.”
