‘He has lots of good qualities’ – Millwall boss gives his verdict on midfielder’s summer move to Peterborough United
Millwall manager Gary Rowett gave Ben Thompson a glowing reference when Peterborough United counterpart Grant McCann got in contact prior to signing the midfielder last week.
The 26-year-old became McCann’s first signing of the summer when he put pen to paper on a two-year deal. And there is an option for an additional 12 months.
Thompson had his Lions contract terminated by mutual consent at the end of January and spent the latter part of the season at Gillingham.
But he became a free agent this summer.
“I spoke to Grant McCann, he rang me about Ben,” Rowett told the South London Press. “Like a lot of players we’ve had, I spoke very highly of him. Thommo is a really good character and he can be really effective at the top end of League One.
“He has got a lot of good qualities and characteristics. Grant is an experienced manager who can get out of that division and he’s done it before. Thommo is joining something that will be really positive next season and a club that will challenge to get back up, and also a club that improves talent and moves talent on.
“There is still an opportunity at a club like Peterborough to be in the spotlight as well as try and get out of the division. It’s a good one for Thommo and we wish him all the very best.”
