‘He is an athlete’ – Kayne Ramsay boosts Charlton Athletic selection options after injury return

Kayne Ramsay ended a three-month spell on the sidelines with a late substitute appearance for Charlton Athletic today – with assistant boss Curtis Fleming describing his return as feeling “like a new signing”.

The 24-year-old defender had been an impressive performer for the Addicks before suffering a knee injury against Stockport in October.

Ramsay was subbed on in the 75th minute of today’s 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town.

“If you interview him afterwards he’d probably tell you he was fit three weeks ago but he wasn’t,” said Fleming. “He is so desperate to get back – he’s been chomping at the bit.

“It was an unfortunate injury he got. He was playing well and people were talking about him. He is an athlete, the kid. He is still learning the game – he came from Harrogate and wants to go up through the levels, you have got to improve aspects of your game.

“But when you get a player who has been out for a while coming back in January then it is like a new signing.

“For us he gives us loads of different options. You could see the lads giving him a hug after and a clap in the dressing room to say: ‘You’re back’. Those hard days he had when we were training and he was running around by himself – those horrible days getting pummeled and we’re just playing five a sides. It’s all about getting back.

“He did well when he came on. There is more to come from him.”
