“He is going to be a very, very good player for us’ – Millwall boss has praise for Liverpool loanee

Sheyi Ojo has been backed to build on a promising start to life at Millwall – with manager Gary Rowett hugely encouraged by the Liverpool loanee’s opening two displays.

The 24-year-old winger made his Lions debut in the 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion on September 11 and then missed the next two Championship fixtures due to illness.

Ojo returned on Saturday and played 79 minutes against Forest.

“If you look at both the games he has started he has not been at full fitness for different reasons,” Rowett told the South London Press.

“What you have seen in both is that he has got better as the games have gone on. He had a little bit of fatigue towards the end but certainly for a 60-minute period in the middle of the game you can see what he has got to offer. He is going to be a very, very good player for us.

“He looked bright, he carries the ball well and has got the ability to beat a player one-v-one. He has lovely balance to come out of positions with the ball when he is in tight areas. He showed with the goal [crossing for Matt Smith to head home against Forest] that he has got the delivery as well.

“He hasn’t had a settled front three of players to play with and it is always hard to work out what people do if it is not the same three players together, it’s harder to build up that understanding.

“I’m really pleased with Sheyi and expect there is more to come from him.”
