High jumper Mabel-Rose Scales ended her summer season in spectacular fashion with an impressive club record-equalling leap at the Tom Lintern Medals Meeting at Crawley, Sussex.

Scales, 11, is the Surrey girls U13 high jump champion. She soared over 1.50 metres to add four centimetres to her PB set a fortnight earlier when she took gold in the South of England championships at Lee Valley.

She won by a massive 30 centimetres. Her performance puts her top in the UK U12 rankings this season and ninth best UK U13 girl high jumper.

She has added 25 centimetres to her previous best this summer and lifted herself an amazing 377 places in the UK girls U13 rankings compared with last season.

Her 1.50m leap equals the Hercules Wimbledon club record set by Darcey O’Shea last season – but one big difference is that Scales is a year younger than O’Shea was when she achieved the clearance.

“Mabel-Rose certainly finished her season in spectacular fashion,” said her dad John, the former AFC Wimbledon defender.

“She’s still only 11, so this is amazing. Many thanks to her coach Trevor Whittle for his amazing work with her this past season. Her younger sister Willow also enjoyed getting a bronze medal in the U11 long jump.”

Willow, who is nine, was third with a leap of 3.49m.

It proved a busy weekend for the two sisters as the previous day they were in action in an open meeting at Tooting Bec.

Willow won the U11 long jump with 3.63m and was sixth in her 100m race. Mabel-Rose was second in the long jump with a PB of 4.17m and second in her 100m race in 14.52, just outside her best time for the distance of 14.5.

Finn Johnson chopped almost two minutes off his best 10,000m track time when he clocked 31:55.1 to finish eighth out of 21 runners in his race at Ladwell. It improved on his previous best of 33:51.29 on his only previous track 10,000m performance at Parliament Hill Fields in May.

Matthieu Lacourt and Tom Street won their U13 and U15 sprint hurdles races at the South London Athletics Network meeting at Wimbledon Park on Sunday.

Danisha Banee won her girls U15 100m race. Morgan Rennie and Hector Revill were the two fastest in their U15 800m race.

Thomas Beare won his boys U13 200m race. Lauren Armitage was second in her girls U13 200m race, Lily Jarvis was second in her U13 girls 100m race.

Lulu Paterson came second in her girls U15 100m race.

Hercules Wimbledon had a hat-trick of winners in last weekend’s parkrun 5km events.

Richard McDowell led in a 523-strong field on Wimbledon Common in a personal best of 15:55, taking 10 seconds off his PB set in May, winning for the fifth time.

Adam Harwood was third in 17:37 and Henry Silverstein fourth in 17:54.

Joe Toomey and Rob Tuer were second and sixth out of 491 runners on Clapham Common in 17:12 and 17:43.

Ben Tatters was fourth out of 539 runners in Richmond Park in 18:25 with Fran Clarke fourth woman in 21:09.

Fred Slemeck was fifth out of 1273 runners in Bushy Park in 16:10.
