Herne Hill Harriers round-up: Ore Adamson produces two big jumps

Ore Adamson has produced two exceptional performances in the past week in jumping events.

Harriers’ U23 competed in the Roadrunner Invitational meet in San Antonio, Texas and produced a best long jump of 6.25m, her best-ever performance.

A strong following wind of plus-4.4 metres per second was over the wind legal limit for national-ranking purposes but would put here in the top four or five in the UK if replicated in calmer conditions this season.

The 19-year-old is studying at the San Antonio University on an athletics scholarship.

Adamson set a PB of 12.16m for the triple jump at the same venue in the UTSA Invitational meet a week earlier. This places her fifth in the UK rankings for 2021 in an event she has only tried competitively on two occasions.

Adamson’s performances in these two disciplines have only been surpassed in Herne Hill history by Olympian Jade Johnson, who twice placed in the top seven at the Games in 2004 and 2008.

Adamson is also a member of Crystal Palace Netball and Aces Netball when at home.

Brandon Dewar won the RunThrough Chase the Sun Olympic Park 10km in Stratford last week in 31:30. Ryan Willmott obliterated his PB, placing fifth in 32:38. Andrew Warburton placed 26th in the Mallory Park 10km road race on Sunday, equalling his PB (31:59).

Fiona and Chris de Mauny were in Worthing for the “Opener” track meeting. Fiona finished fourth of seven athletes in the fastest women’s 600m race, clocking a time of 1:39.61. She was then third in a 300m race (46.66). Husband Chris was racing for the first time since an injury lay-off and placed sixth in a men’s 600m race in 1:48.82.
