Herne Hill Harriers round-up: Silver medals collected at Croydon’s Lloyd Park

The South of the Thames Cross Country Association 5-Mile race on Saturday rounded off a busy month of local club racing in November, writes Geoff Jerwood.

Herne Hill Harriers’ senior women continued their fine early season form with another demonstration of their depth of squad as they brought team silver medals home from Lloyd Park in Croydon.

Jenny Nandi had another strong race to lead the team with a fifth place finish. She was backed up well by Julia Wedmore (ninth), Suzanne Swaine (12th) and Charlotte Kenyon closing the scoring A team quartet.

Saskia Millard place 26th in a field stacked with depth and quality at the British Athletics Cross Challenge event in Sefton Park, Liverpool which also incorporated the Great Britain trials for the European Cross Country Championship in Italy next month.

Jonathan Ratcliffe claimed an individual national silver medal in the M55 age group in the British Masters 10 mile Championship on Sunday morning at the Gravesend Cyclopark. Ratcliffe clocked 60:49.

Georgie Grgec was first female at the Dulwich parkrun in 16:38.

Other Harriers parkrun winners were Mike Cummings in Brockwell Park in 16:12, Simon Coombes at the Rushmere event in 17:48, Gaby Reynolds in Nonsuch Park – first female in 18:38.

Katie Balme was first female at Exeter Riverside (20:02).

Lewis Laylee was second behind Cummings at Dulwich in 16:31, with other prominent finishers being Myles Preston, second on Tooting Common in 17:20, ahead of Matt Cartwright, third in 17:26, and Adam Westbury, sixth in 18:21.

Mike Boyle, a former Great Britain international marathon runner and now in the M60 age group, also clocked a good 18:48 at Tooting.
