‘He’s done fantastically well’ – Dons head coach Mark Robinson pleased to see Johnnie Jackson land Charlton job

AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson was pleased to see Johnnie Jackson handed the Charlton Athletic job on a full-time basis.

Jackson won seven out of his first 10 games in charge of the Addicks after he initially took over from Nigel Adkins as caretaker and has carried them to 12th in the League One table after taking over with the club in the relegation zone.

The 39-year-old, who made 279 appearances for Charlton, is set to bring his side to Plough Lane on Boxing Day to take on Robinson’s Dons.

Speaking to the South London Press, Robinson said on Jackson: “He has done fantastically well. It’s obvious from the results – he has done brilliantly. I am really pleased for him that he got the job.

“London derbies are always nice, especially over Christmas as well. But for us, it’s just another test where we want to prove ourselves and how far we have come.”

There was a hope that right-back Cheye Alexander, who had been sidelined with an injury to his right ankle that he suffered in the 1-0 loss to Sutton United in the EFL trophy, could have returned to the squad for Sunday’s game.

However, Robinson explained: “Boxing Day might be slightly too early for Cheye. However, Cheye and Will Nightingale both took part in an in-house game, and they both completed 20 minutes and looked good, so they’re not too far away. We’re hoping to see them return early in the New Year.”
