Horsman finishes impressive rookie Moto2 season 6th overall
Horsman ended his rookie British GP2 (Moto2) Cup season with a seventh and fifth place finish at Brands Hatch. This took his points total to 138 and sixth in the overall championship in a year that saw him take a first race victory in the class.
On a damp, Kent track, the Lewisham rider qualified in the seventh fastest time in the GP2 category with a 1:31.101, placing him 19th overall.
It was still cold when the riders lined up for the first race of the weekend on Saturday afternoon.
Horsman made up a couple of positions on the opening lap but remained seventh in the Moto2 class.
On lap three he was overtaken by a Supersport class rider and for several laps could not re-pass. This resulted in his closest GP2 rivals managing to make a break.
Although he re-took the position later and posted his fastest lap time of the weekend so far (1:30.419) he was unable to close down his GP2 rivals. He went on to finish fifteenth overall and seventh in his category.
Horsman was placed 20th on the combined Supersport / GP2 grid for the final race of the season, seventh in his class.
He dropped a position in the GP2 class on the opening lap. Jake Archer was the nearest but between Archer and Horsman were two Supersport riders.
By the fourth lap Horsman had caught Archer and passed the number 47.
His next objective was the GP2 of Dan Jones who was some 1.5 seconds ahead. Having got himself some clear track he was able to chip away at Jones’ advantage. However, behind him Archer had got through the Supersport riders and was not far behind Horsman.
Jones and Horsman then traded places for a couple of laps with Horsman eventually managing to pull away with around four laps to go. Archer had also got through and for the final two laps put Horsman under a lot of pressure.
The 19 year old rider held off the challenge to take a hard fought fifth place finish.
Following another successful weekend Cameron Horsman finished his rookie year in sixth position overall on 138 points. On the way he took a third place, a second and of course a fabulous maiden win at Donington Park early in October.
Cameron Horsman said, “It was a great first year in Moto2. I wasn’t expecting to get a podium this year so to finish with three and a race win was amazing.
“It has been unusual not to have any crowds this year but I appreciate all the support I have had from the local press and social media.
“I must thank the Chassis Factory and Nova Go Racing for the bike I have had this year and all my other sponsors and supporters.”
