Huddersfield boss takes satisfaction in Karlan Grant hitting back at Charlton detractors

Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley felt Karlan Grant did not deserve a rough reception on his Valley return in December – and took extra satisfaction in the striker scoring twice in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Charlton.

The attacker left the Addicks in the 2019 January transfer window.

Greenwich-born Grant made it 16 goals in 33 Championship matches this season as he claimed a double against Lee Bowyer’s side at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

He celebrated with a shushing gesture to the away fans after putting Huddersfield ahead following poor defending by Deji Oshilaja.

Cowley told the Huddersfield Examiner: “He got a bit of stick at Charlton which I thought was unfair, actually.

“To come through their academy – they should be proud of him, the Charlton Athletic supporters.

“For him to get the criticism that he did, personally I thought it was unfair – so this was a great way to answer them (with two goals).

“He has done brilliantly,” said Cowley of his leading scorer.

“He has had an injury and come back, but he always plays to the end – 90 minutes – and that’s hard for attacking players.”
