Huddersfield Town blocked loan striker from playing for AFC Wimbledon in FA Cup

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson has confirmed that Huddersfield Town stopped loanee Kyle Hudlin from playing in Saturday’s FA Cup first-round tie away to Weymouth.

The Dons drew 1-1 with the National League South side, with Ayoub Assal’s opener in the fifth minute cancelled out by a second-half free-kick from Ahkeem Rose.

Hudlin, 22, joined the Dons in the summer on a season-long loan from the Championship side after Jack Rudoni moved the other way for a club-record fee.

The former Solihull Moors striker is yet to start a game in League Two under Jackson – playing a total of 79 minutes. He scored his one goal for the South Londoners in the 3-2 EFL Trophy win over Crawley Town.

“We weren’t given permission from Huddersfield to involve Kyle in the FA Cup,” the Dons boss confirmed to the club’s media channel.

“That’s their prerogative. We were disappointed that we couldn’t choose him. It certainly would have been a game where he could have come on and impacted it.

“He’s back with the group. He came on in the last game [in the league] against Harrogate and had a positive impact, along with the other subs that day.

“Kyle is training well with the group and will be back involved tonight.”

Wimbledon take on top of the table Leyton Orient tonight at Plough Lane.
