Huddersfield Town loanee produces strong display in AFC Wimbledon’s EFL Trophy win
Johnnie Jackson felt Kyle Hudlin produced one of his best performances for AFC Wimbledon in Tuesday’s 1-0 EFL Trophy win over Sutton United.
Hudlin scored the only goal of the game, and his second for the Dons in all competitions, with a well-taken finish in the 17th minute at Plough Lane.
Jack Currie burst down the left-hand side and jinked past two Sutton players before setting up Hudlin with a low cross inside the area.
The Huddersfield Town loanee, 22, side-footed his shot past Sutton goalkeeper Jack Rose.
Hudlin, who was not allowed to play in the FA Cup for the Dons by his parent club, has yet to start a game in League Two under Jackson.
When asked whether he believed that was one of Hudlin’s best performances since arriving at Plough Lane, Jackson said: “I would agree with that.
“I’m really pleased for him. Again, he’s another one who has had to bide his time and wait for opportunities.
“It’s been quite limited due to the guys who play in his position. But I knew I could rely on him and young Quaine Bartley tonight.
“Kyle was a real handful and took his goal well.
“He helps out in both boxes, especially when you’re having to defend set pieces. He’s obviously a big threat at the other end.
“He got through 90 minutes there, and he’s fighting for the team and the cause – that’s all you can ask from the lads.”
