Millwall have taken more points than any other Championship club since Neil Harris returned to The Den on February 21 – but the head coach is not stopping to admire that achievement.
The Lions’ 1-0 win over Leeds in SE16 on Wednesday made it 48 points collected – one more than their Yorkshire opponents over the same period – as they moved up to fifth in the table.
Asked how much pride he had in that statistic, Millwall head coach Harris said: “Huge. We are the underdog in a lot of games and that’s why we’re entitled to celebrate victories like tonight and Sunday (a 1-0 victory against Burnley). They are probably a lot more hardened and ready to be top of the division than us.
“I’ve great pride in the players – my parting shot before kick-off to them was that we know where we’re at and what we are. Every individual knows their part in the team and what is expected from them. Their job is to go and deliver that, they are doing it brilliantly.
“I can’t thank them enough or be any prouder of the team – but we won’t settle for that. We’re only 14 games in and we want to keep upsetting teamsm keep outperforming teams and stay in the top reaches of the division.”
Millwall will be hunting a fifth straight victory in tomorrow’s lunchtime fixture at Stoke.
