‘I two-footed him at The Den’ – Boro boss had no complaints over his red card at The Den
Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder can still vividly remember the time he got sent off at The Old Den- and admits he could have no complaints.
Wilder was shown a straight red card for a foul on Millwall winger Jimmy Carter in 1987.
The then 19-year-old was playing for Sheffield United and Wilder – talking after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with the South Londoners – laughed about the time he was dismissed.
Wilder said: “I two-footed Jimmy Carter at the old ground. It was right in the far corner [of the ground].
“It was a 50-50 and I thought it was a 50-50, then Jimmy Carter slowed down and I accelerated.
“I two footed him and he went over my shoulder. It was in the far corner and I had to make the 100-yard walk right over to the far end where the changing rooms were.
“Obviously, they weren’t saying unlucky it was a mistimed tackle.”
