‘I would love to stay’ – former Fulham and Chelsea defender happy to extend terms at Charlton Athletic
Michael Hector would “love” to stay at Charlton Athletic beyond this season.
The former Fulham, Chelsea and Reading centre-back’s current terms run until the end of June.
“I am enjoying my football here and I’d love to stay – my family are very local,” said Hector. “It is the right place for me and I’m helping the younger boys as well, which is a key role for me.
“But it (his contract situation) is exactly the same as last season – I’m really, really relaxed with it. The club are relaxed as well.
“At the end of last season the negotiations took longer then I expected or wanted them to but I’ve been in football long enough to know that it is not always straightforward – even when both parties want it to happen, especially when there is new ownership.
“I can’t look too far ahead. We all know that in football things can change overnight.”
The 31-year-old has made 37 appearances for the Addicks
He said: “It’s going well here. I would like better results on the pitch but I think that will come and that performances are coming.
“I feel I’m playing good football myself personally. Where I have had a consistent run of games it means I get into a rhythm, that’s when I play my best football.”
