Ice-dance: South London duo shine at Halloween Cup
Ashlie Slatter and Atl Ongay-Perez finished second at the Halloween Cup in Budapest.
Slatter, from Croydon, and Ongay-Perez, from Wandsworth, are national basic novice ice dance champions following their successful performance in London at the Mary Parry championship,
The pair, who train at the Streatham Ice Rink, were entered into the international competition to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Hungary by NISA, the national governing body for ice skating.
Slatter and Ongay-Perez’s free dance, based on music from Bugsy Malone, was their most successful routine.
They were awarded 28.18 points, putting them ahead of the German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish and Ukrainian competitors in this segment of the competition.
Their coaching team is led by Diane Towler-Green, an Olympian and world champion in the discipline, and her daughters Candi Towler-Green and Pippa Towler-Green, both experienced international competitors.
Professional skater Roland Hailston is an experienced technical coach and Mathieu Geffré-Gardiner is the choreographer
The result keeps them at the top of the UK’s national rankings, a position that will be tested in the forthcoming British National Championship in late November and early December.
