Ice-hockey: Stinging Bees has left Streatham’s Siagris feeling confident

BY DAVID CARR

Streatham forward Andrea Siagris has told his team to push on after  downing table-topping Bracknell Bees last Sunday.

The 21-year-old played a starring role in the 4-2 win over the previously unbeaten Berkshire side, grabbing a goal and earning the man of the match award.

“The boys played really well and we redeemed ourselves from the weekend before,” admitted the Canadian. “We didn’t give them many chances and made sure we generated lots of opportunities ourselves.

“We were able to capitalise on a couple of power plays at critical times.

“We knew going into the third that we needed to keep the pressure on and build on our one-goal lead and we were able to do exactly that.

“It shows that we can beat the top teams in the league on any night. We are a good team, and when we impose our game on other teams, we are expecting two points. Other teams will have to bring their ‘A’ game each and every night they are playing Streatham.”

Goals from Adam Carr, Alex Roberts and Ryan Webb added to Siagris’s snipe against the Bees, with goalie Damien King in sparkling form between the pipes.

RedHawks travel to Milton Keynes tomorrow to take on the Thunder before hosting London Raiders in Streatham on Sunday. Siagris said: “It’s simple, we’re looking for four points.

“We can’t be expecting that they’ll just hand them over, but that’s the goal we are setting for ourselves. We need to impose ourselves and look to dominate start to finish.

“We need to be moving up the board now as we don’t want to be scrambling at the end of the season looking for points.

“It’s good for the boys too, keeps the spirits high and come play-offs time, the winning streaks during the season are what you look to.

“It’s important to manage emotions when we’re winning. We can’t get too high or too low, so being able to string some wins together without being too overconfident or lackadaisical will serve us well.”
