‘I’d have loved 100 minutes!’ – Millwall boss Rowett on FIFA chief’s plans to combat time-wasting

Gary Rowett produced a light-hearted response when asked about FIFA chief Gianni Infantino’s suggestion that matches lasting 100 minutes could become a regular occurrence to prevent time-wasting.

Infantino was a surprise guest at Millwall’s 3-2 defeat to Norwich City yesterday.

FIFA’s president was in London for the International Football Association Board (IFAB) annual meeting.

Infantino watched the first half at The Den from the directors’ box before leaving at half-time.

Asked about his plans to combat time-wasting, Rowett said: “I’d have loved to have seen 100 minutes today. I thought Angus Gunn was going to take 100 minutes to take a goal-kick late on!

“My personal opinion is that it should be whatever time is added on.

“The fact that he was here, I don’t know the reason. Hopefully he’s heard that there was going to be a brilliant atmosphere today with two Championship sides going at it.

“Maybe he wanted a game that wasn’t a Premier League, high-flying game with 60,000 fans there. If that’s the case, I’m sure he’s gone away and enjoyed his experience.”
