‘I’d love Charlton-Crystal Palace in EFL Cup fourth round’ – Ben Garner hoping for Premier League club in Thursday’s draw

Charlton Athletic manager Ben Garner reckons that an EFL Cup fourth round tie against Crystal Palace would be a perfect outcome for his club’s supporters.

The Addicks secured their place in the next round after a 5-4 win on penalties at League Two Stevenage tonight. Joe Wollacott saved Jake Taylor’s effort and Scott Fraser stepped up to convert and send the South Londoners through.

Palace head to Newcastle tomorrow to also try and progress.

The draw takes place on Thursday.

“As big as possible. We’ll take what we get. But I’d love to give those supporters a huge tie against a Premier League side, either home or away. We spoke about that before the game – make sure that when that draw is happening on Thursday that we’re there and got a chance of drawing a big tie.

“But we can’t affect it. We’ll take whoever we can and look to progress in the competition.

“For me the draw is about the supporters. Can we get as big a game as possible. Me personally, I think for the fans and for us, as a team, I’d love Crystal Palace. That would be a fantastic occasion and not played in several years now. That would be fantastic.

“As big a team as possible or a local derby that is an exciting one for the fans. We’ll see who it is and prepare in great detail to try and win the game.”
