‘I’m not holding my breath’ – Charlton boss provides update on striker

Charlton manager Johnnie Jackson is not expecting Conor Washington to be fit for tomorrow’s match at Accrington Stanley, writes Richard Cawley.

The Northern Ireland international, 29, is the Addicks’ top scorer in League One this season with nine goals.

But Washington has missed the last five matches with a hamstring injury.

“I don’t think he’ll be available for the weekend,” said Jackson. “He is going to be touch and go. I’m not holding my breath. I had been expecting to have him back by now. But it is his second hamstring of the season and we have to be careful he doesn’t come back and break down again.”

Winger Corey Blackett-Taylor was due to resume full training yesterday.

But Jackson added that Chuks Aneke is “still a number of weeks” from a first-team return.

Jake Forster-Caskey, working his way back from a second ACL injury, is due to play an U23 match next week.
