Influential Charlton midfielder is facing race to be fit to face Gillingham

Jake Forster-Caskey is a doubt for Charlton’s home game against Gillingham on Saturday – with Lee Bowyer adamant he will take no risks with the influential midfielder’s fitness.

The former Brighton and MK man went for a scan on his hamstring on Monday and it showed no damage.

But Forster-Caskey trained away from the main group earlier in the week.

“We’ll have to see how Jake goes today,” said Addicks manager Bowyer. “Him and Pearcey were away from the group but both outside on Tuesday. Pearcey just had a bit of a tight groin.

“If there is any doubt [about Forster-Caskey] we won’t take the risk with him. I’ll always try to look at the bigger picture and not put players at risk if I can help it. If we are down to the bare bones then I have no choice. But as it stands we’ve nearly got everybody back fit now.”
