Injury setback for Palace midfielder
Patrick Vieira has confirmed that Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur has suffered a groin injury which could rule him out for the start of the season.
The 34-year-old Scottish midfielder has picked up a groin injury and was absent from Palace’s final test of pre-season – a 4-2 win against French side Montpellier.
McArthur featured in the 3-2 win against Gillingham and played 45 minutes during the 3-0 win against QPR last time out.
McArthur featured 23 times last season in all competitions but missed portions of the season through injury, with a torn hamstring that he picked up in the 2-0 win against Wolves, keeping him out for 12 games.
“Just a step back,” said Palace boss Patrick Vieira of McArthur’s absence.
“It is an injury. Hopefully, it’s not going to be as long as we fear.
“We’ll have to wait on Monday to see how long. It’s his groin.”
The Eagles kick off their 10th Premier League campaign in a row next Friday against Arsenal.
