Injury update emerges for Charlton Athletic defender Josh Edwards
Josh Edwards’ ankle injury is set to see the Charlton Athletic defender sidelined for weeks rather than months.
The Addicks’ summer signing was stretchered off in the first half of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leyton Orient after a late and crude challenge from Sean Clare, who was booked.
There had been fears at the time that Edwards, whose left foot was placed in a protective boot in the immediate aftermath, could have sustained a serious injury.
The South London Press understands that initial scans have indicated that he is not set to be ruled out long term.
Thierry Small replaced the Scot and looks set to get a chance to stake his own claim for the left wing-back spot.
“It’s not a good challenge,” said Charlton manager Nathan Jones immediately after the Orient match. “It’s a poor challenge.
“I’ve been in to see the referee and he has instinctively reacted and given a yellow – if that goes to VAR it is a straight red all day long.”

It was a late rash challenge and should of been a red card without doubt.
