Ipswich Town interim boss McGreal complimentary about Johnnie Jackson’s Charlton
Ipswich Town interim manager John McGreal hailed the job Johnnie Jackson is doing after Charlton beat them 2-0 at The Valley last night.
Jayden Stockley put the South Londoners ahead midway through the first half before Alex Gilbey wrapped up the points with five minutes to go.
When asked about Addicks caretaker boss Jackson, McGreal said: “He’s doing a brilliant job. He’s still on the interim [basis], he’s got them playing a certain way. They are a high-energy team by the way.
“They’ve got some quality players throughout, and players that are in form. That’s how he’s done it. We are trying to do that ourselves because we’ve got another tough fixture come Saturday.
“It was a hard night, we were in the game for 20 minutes, and then they scored the goal. For me, it looked onside, but it was tight. But for 10-15 minutes after that, we lost our way a bit. We couldn’t get the first pass away, couldn’t really control the ball.
“We got it back a little bit just before half-time, we were definitely still in the game. In the second half, we were our worst enemy in a way. We were in possession, there was a turnover and a simple ball puts them clean through.
“They’re saying the right things [the Ipswich players] the energy levels seemed to be there, the performance was there but it was nowhere near long enough, nowhere near good enough to carry us through to get something out of the game. Charlton were well worthy winners.
“The Charlton fans get this place rocking at the moment because they’re in a good bit of form. We have to try and get to that stage ourselves.”
