Is Dean Holden looking to replace Scott Marshall at Charlton Athletic? Addicks boss answers that question

Dean Holden says Scott Marshall’s departure to join Ben Garner at Colchester United presents an opportunity to bring a new member of staff onto his Charlton Athletic coaching team.

It was announced on Saturday before the clash at Plymouth that Marshall had his role as Charlton Athletic men’s first-team assistant coach.

Marshall was brought to The Valley in the summer by Garner. But he stayed on at Charlton after Garner was sacked and replaced by Holden in December.

The former Swindon coach was named as Garner’s new assistant manager at League Two side Colchester United on Monday.

Anthony Hayes – who took temporary charge of the EFL Cup win against Brighton earlier in the season – is also Holden’s assistant boss.

“Anthony and Scott have worked really well since I have come into the job,” said Holden after the 2-0 defeat at Home Park.

“Anthony has been my main assistant manager since I have been in the club. Scott has helped around a lot.

“He came to see me at the beginning part of the week, and there was an opportunity for him to move on that he wanted to take.

“I was never going to stand in his way at that point. It gives us an opportunity to replace Scott.

“Whether that is now or the end of the season, we will make a decision on it. But we wish him well.”
