Isaac Chamberlain comes up short in challenge for European title as he loses Commonwealth crown to Jack Massey

The two South London boxers on the undercard of tonight’s Selhurst Park show endured disappointment.

Brixton cruiserweight Isaac Chamberlain lost a unanimous points decision to Jack Massey – and his Commonwealth belt – with the vacant European strap also on the line.

Two judges scored it 115-113 for Massey with the other marking it a touch wider at 116-112.

Chamberlain was competitive throughout and looked as if he might have had his Cheshire opponent wobbled in the eighth but could not find a finish.

It proved costly as Massey recovered, aided by referee Kevin Parker delaying the start of the ninth as he spoke to Chamberlain.

The South Londoner needed a big finish in a tight contest but instead Massey was the one connecting with eye-catching shots.

Chamberlain’s record drops to 16-3 (eight KOs) and halts a two-bout winning streak since his unanimous decision defeat to Chris Billam-Smith for the same two belts that were on the line this evening.

Lewisham’s Dan Azeez looked flat in a draw with Croatian Hrvoje Sep.

It was Azeez’s first outing since losing on points to Joshua Buatsi in February. His worked lacked sharpness and Sep did not find his difficult to land on.

Referee Bob Williams scored it 76-76.

Azeez’s new record is 20-1-1 (13 KOs).
